Nestled on the southeast coast of Vancouver Island, Cowichan Bay has the mildest winters anywhere in Canada, according to the Cowichan Valley Regional District website.
Cowichan Bay is a beautiful seaside village to walk and experience a wonderful rural community lifestyle. Here, you will enjoy amazing restaurants, a bakery, a little supermarket/post office/ liquor store, gift shops, the Cowichan Bay Maritime Center and wooden boat museum, marinas, kayaking, Scuba Diving, Whale Watching, and the list goes on. Hecate Park is right across the road with the Cowichan Estuary, a shallow beach for the kiddies and dogs to get their feet wet, and several benches to sit and watch the sun rise or set over the bay.
Within a 15 minute drive from the Wessex Inn, you can explore all that the City of Duncan has to offer, including the BC Forest Discovery Center, the Cowichan Valley Museum, a tour of local Totems, and The Raptors Birds of Prey visitor center. There's also plenty of shopping and great food to enjoy in the midst of taking it all in.
The Cowichan Valley is also home to some world renowned wineries to be explored and toured. Savour the flavour as you sip the culture of local community and spirit.
If you don’t drive, or choose not to rent a car while you stay with us, there’s a BC Transit bus stop right in front of the motel, where you can catch a ride into Duncan in one direction or Mill Bay in the other.
All of this is almost exactly halfway between Victoria and Nanaimo with roughly a one hour drive in either direction to a Ferry or Airport.
